Prayers and lists
Add, edit, group, sort, answer, archive and delete the things you are praying for.
Everything you pray for is a prayer in your list. A prayer has a title, optional notes, and optional Bible verses. Prayers can be put into groups so that family, church and work stay separate, and each prayer is either In progress, Answered or Archived.
Add a prayer
Tap the plus button
On the Prayers tab, tap the round plus button at the bottom of the screen.
Fill it in
Type a title where it says Enter title. Add notes under Write more details (optional) if you want them. To put the prayer in a group, tap the group chip and pick one, or choose Create new group.
Save
Tap the tick in the top corner. If you close the sheet instead, Prayminder asks whether to Keep editing or Don't save.
Edit a prayer
Tap the prayer to open it. The title and the notes under Notes can be edited in place; just tap the text and type. There is no save button. Changes are kept as soon as you leave the screen.
To attach a Bible verse, tap the plus button on the prayer and choose Add Scripture. See Bible and verses.
Mark a prayer as prayed
Every time you pray for something, tell Prayminder so it can keep count:
- From a reminder, long-press the notification and tap Amen, or tap Amen on the reminder in the Reminders tab.
- From the prayer itself, tap the Amen button at the bottom of the Notes tab.
- From the list, long-press the prayer and choose Amen.
The count appears on the prayer's Stats tab. See Stats.
Mark a prayer as answered
Long-press the prayer in the list and choose Mark as answered, or open the prayer, go to its Settings tab and change Status to Answered.
The prayer moves to the Answered list, your praise log. It no longer appears in reminders. To bring it back, long-press it and choose Move back to In progress.
Archive a prayer
Archiving is for prayers you are not praying about right now but do not want to lose. Long-press the prayer and choose Archive, or set its Status to Archived on the prayer's Settings tab. Archived prayers get no reminders. You can move them back the same way as answered prayers.
Delete a prayer
Swipe the prayer to the left and tap Delete, or long-press it and choose Delete from the menu. Deleting is permanent; there is no undo. If you might want the prayer again, archive it instead.
Put prayers into groups
A prayer can belong to one group. To create a group while you add or open a prayer, tap the group chip and choose Create new group. Type a name and confirm. You can also create groups ahead of time from Manage groups.
To move an existing prayer into a group, long-press it, choose Move to group, and pick the group, or pick No group to take it out. The same options are on the prayer's Settings tab.
Groups show as sections in your list with their own header. Tap a header to collapse or expand the section.
A group only shows on a tab when it has prayers there. A group whose prayers are all answered appears under Answered only, and a new group with no prayers does not appear anywhere in your list until you add one. Manage groups always lists every group.
Manage your groups
Manage groups shows all your groups in one place, in the order they appear in your list, with how many prayers each one has on each tab.
Open the list menu
On the Prayers tab, tap the menu in the top corner, next to the search icon.
Choose Manage groups
It is at the bottom of the menu, on all three tabs. The Groups screen opens.
Create a group
Tap New group, type a name and confirm. The group is added at the end of the list. It shows up on the Prayers tab once you add a prayer to it.
Rename a group
Tap the menu next to the group and choose Rename group.
Change the order of your groups
Tap Edit, drag each group by the handle on the right of its row, then tap Done. Your prayer list follows the new order, and so does every list where you choose a group for a prayer.
To move one group at a time from the list itself, use Move up and Move down in the menu on the group's header.
Delete a group
Tap the menu next to the group and choose Delete group, or tap Edit and then the red button beside the group. Prayminder asks once and says what will go, for example "3 in progress and 2 answered prayers will be deleted permanently." Confirm with Delete permanently. For a group with no prayers, the button is Delete group.
Deleting a group deletes its prayers
Every prayer in the group is deleted with it, including answered and archived ones, and there is no undo. Move the prayers out first if you want to keep them.
Use a group's header menu
Tap the menu on a group's header in your list. It offers Sort group, Move up, Move down, Rename group and Delete group. Deleting from here asks twice and shows the number of prayers involved before it goes ahead with Delete permanently.
Sort your prayers
Prayminder can keep your prayers in four orders:
- Custom: the order you arrange by hand. This is where every list starts.
- Alphabetical: A to Z by title.
- Newest first: the prayers you added most recently at the top.
- Oldest first: the prayers you added longest ago at the top.
The order you choose applies to the In progress, Answered and Archived tabs alike, and to search results. The order of the groups themselves does not change; see Change the order of your groups for that.
Sort the whole list
Open the list menu
On the Prayers tab, tap the menu in the top corner, next to the search icon.
Choose Sort prayers
The current order is shown underneath Sort prayers. Tap it and pick Custom, Alphabetical, Newest first or Oldest first. Your list changes straight away.
Prayers that are not in a group always follow this order. Groups follow it too, unless you give a group an order of its own.
Give a group its own order
A group can be sorted differently from the rest of your list. For example, you might keep most groups in your own order but sort a long Church group alphabetically.
Open the group's menu
Tap the menu on the group's header.
Choose Sort group
Pick the order you want for this group. From now on the group keeps that order, even if you change Sort prayers later. The group's order is shown underneath Sort group.
To make the group follow the rest of your list again, open Sort group and choose Use default. The brackets show the order it will go back to, for example Use default (Alphabetical).
Picking the same order still counts
If you choose the same order in Sort group as the whole list already uses, the group still keeps it when the list changes. Choose Use default if you want the group to follow along instead.
Arrange prayers by hand
Open the list menu
On the Prayers tab, tap the menu in the top corner and choose Reorder prayers.
Move your prayers
Drag each prayer by the handle on the right of its row.
Prayers move within their own group.
Tap Done
Your order is saved as you go.
Only groups sorted as Custom can be arranged by hand. If every group on the tab uses another order, Reorder prayers is not available; switch the list or a group back to Custom first. Your hand-made order is not lost when you try another sort: choose Custom again and it comes back.
Find a prayer
Tap the search icon at the top of the Prayers tab and start typing. The list narrows to matching prayers, still under their group headers.
Change a prayer's reminders
Each prayer has its own reminder settings: whether it takes part in the rotation, and any fixed times of its own. Open the prayer's Settings tab, or long-press it and choose Reminder schedule. Everything about them is in Reminders.
